Firefox 71 Tabs below Address(url) Bar
« on: December 04, 2019, 08:15:24 AM »
I just noticed that in Firefox 71 they have once again moved the TABS to the top, and I prefer that they be below the
address/url bar and the bookmarks bar(see the attached image).

To get the tabs, once again, below the address bar and bookmarks bar,
click this link, download and save the file:
https://www.userchrome.org/samples/userChrome-tabs_on_bottom_Fx70.css

Rename the saved file to userChrome.css

Open your File Manager, Show Hidden Files,
Navigate to and open the .mozilla folder

Open the firefox folder

Open the default folder

Open the chrome folder : If you don't have this folder - create it.(right click>Create New>folder)

Rename the current userChrome.css file, to something like userChrome.css.old

Now move the userChrome.css file that you downloaded into the chrome folder.

Close and restart Firefox your tabs should now be on bottom.

I got all of this from: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/forum-response-tabs-below-url-bar

Edit:
Another user found that they had to use this file:
https://www.userchrome.org/samples/userChrome-tabs_on_bottom_Fx68-71_WindowsLinux.css
renamed to userChrome.css and put it into their .default-release folder

I found that both files work in my Firefox.

Thanks, that did the job  :)

That file is about 10 times larger than the original ......  which seems quite a lot .......

Thanks.  I had posted a support question about a bar which suddenly appeared on every page.  After adding the new css code that bar has gone.

I don't know why the heck they can't give the end user the option to choose where they want the tabs bar put without having to jump through hoops.  It is my machine and my browser I should be able to use it the way I want to, not how some damn developer thinks is best for me.

+1

I like my tabs on the side because I have way too many open, for that I had to use the Tree Tabs addon.

Maybe if you displayed the directory names in full you might notice that one of them has 'default' as its extension?

My default folder is 459gtun5.default and it does not contain a folder named chrome
Do I create this folder?

Yes !

I created the folder and placed the downloaded file, userChrome-tabs_on_bottom_Fx70.css renamed to userChrome.css in it.

The tabs are still displaying above the Bookmarks and address Bar

The tabs are still displaying above the Bookmarks and address Bar

Set Firefox to look for userChrome.css at startup (updated 5/24/2019)

To make startup faster for most users, Firefox 69 and above will no longer look for this file automatically. You need to tell it to look. Here's how:

In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter/Return. Click the button accepting the risk.
In the search box above the list, type or paste userprof and pause while the list is filtered. If you do not see anything on the list, please ignore the rest of these instructions. You can close this tab now.
Double-click the toolkit.legacyUserProfileCustomizations.stylesheets preference to switch the value from false to true.

That change should take effect on your next startup.

I had already done the above :-\
