Enable Digital Output Audio (solved)
« on: November 25, 2011, 01:04:10 PM »
i  recenly bought an s/pdif cable to go from my GPU to my soundcard (audigy2zx) , booted into winblows and did up the digital out and it worked fine, (im impressed with the quality) , anyhoo i was wondering how to do this in PCLOS as its my main OS, i have tried enabling pulse,i have tried disabling IEC958 Optical Raw & enabling audigy digital output jack in qasmixer, on running pauvcontrol i get error like connection refused/failed.i have did Install task-pulseaudio from the repository and pavucontrol
Enabled Pulse in PCC - Hardware - Sound and reboot.
any help be appreciated id love to get digital audio out on PCLOS.   thanks !

I have since got pauvcontrol working and the output level bars show the audio out , but no sound comin thru speakers(i did install relevant vlc pulse plugin and enable it in prefs) nothin in browser, vlc ect . im using aa dvi from gpu to HDMI  in tv (the spdif cable i mentioned above takes care of the sound over DVI) so im truly at a loss.
i have since disabled pulse, and i have made the audigy spdif to be uppermost in all prefrences in phonon, however kmix & qasmix still show the audio coming thru as analogue, the HDspdif slider makes no difference to the current playing audio, i have looked on these forums for a soloution but to no avail. ty

seems i pulled it off by adding following lines to /etc/rc.local:

 # Use COAX-digital output
amixer set 'IEC958 Optical' 100 unmute
amixer set 'Audigy Analog/Digital Output Jack' on

(proud of masel)  :D
