Dual Kernel ISOs

I wonder if anyone is working on allowing PCLOS ISOs to have two kernel options when booting?

Now that the ISOs have grown over the size of a CD, the extra size of the second kernel would make little difference ---  only about 12.5MB in any case.

It would allow for the provision of a standard and a pae kernel in the one ISO.

I know this was looked at some time back because I made such an ISO and it boots both kernels without issue ....  2.6.38.8-pclos3.bfs & 2.6.38.8-pclos3.pae.bfs .

So ... as I have not seen mention of it for some time I wondered if it is still something that the devs intend to use on future releases.

Did you have to do any special set-up to get that or did you just run mylivecd on an install with 2 kernels?

May be the need for .pae kernel will just go away once the 64 bit version goes gold?

Check the mylivecd options from the help page

--mbkopt <kernel>    Create the ISO with multi boot kernel option.
--mbkopt_label <menu label>  Customize the menu entry for the 2nd kernel

It is a long time ago (relative to memory retention ) so I do not recall what exactly I did.

I like the idea, but I'm not sure .pae is really the important issue. Isn't the default kernel now a .bfs.pae anyway?

But having two kernels of different vintages to maximise the chance of booting on specific hardware could be useful, perhaps.

Shouldn't be .....  as some hardware will not boot from such a kernel .....  and IIRC that was the reason a pae kernel was not default in the official ISOs.
