Friends, about all those distros, probably I won’t keep all of those.
I mean, Dream Studio I think I must, cause is my low latency kernel distro, with jack audio pre-configured, allowing me to work with Ardour (and I never understood how to settle jack, so that’s the only reason why Dream studio is there). I know it’s kind of dummy a have a distro installed only to work with Ardour, but what can I say… it won’t work on other distros!!!
About Mint, well... was my first move onto linux world, and I always felt comfortable with that, although I always felt it wasn’t a beautiful distro as others (probably because of gnome or so) but the things always work, and that’s precious. But now, with gnome 3, I think it’s time for me to settle to another environment, so here’s kde! That’s where it comes Kubuntu. Just trying, cause I wasn’t able to install pclinuxos (my first choice to enter the kde world). So, I’ll probably will keep windows/dream studio/ a kde distro (hope pclinuxos), and I’m still thinking about Mint. Let’s see.
But about the multiple boot, guess there are no problems with that. I’ll just install pclinuxos bootloader in the partition I’ll install it, and then just do an update grub in my main distro. It worked with all the distros I’ve installed before (although all of them are ubuntu based, but it worked also with pardus, so, probably will work with pclinuxos too). But this is a problem that is not yet happening, since as I said in early posts, the dvd just freezes, without the begginning of the installation process.

Back to hypothesis no.1 : a bad burn/download   :)
I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

Well, I really doubt about that, cause I’ve burned 3 different dvd's after 2 different downloads, always burned at the slowest speed!
I mean, you can mess one or two, but 3 in a row?! It would be the first time, and the first distro!
Let’s check the “md5sum” to see what’s next…

DVD or CD.. some brands dont play nice with certain drives, or a bad download
Office required Windows XP or better, so I installed PCLinuxOS :D

A report of exactly what happened when you tried the suggestions here might help to determine what is the source of the problem ....

As already mentioned sometimes a certain media just doesn't play right with your optical drive.
Your drive may be a bit worn out?
Maybe try a cd instead of a dvd?
Could you create a live USB with another machine using your PCLOS iso & boot with that?

Hi guys,

How are you?
Well, good news: I finally got Pclinuxos installed!
It was no need to follow others advices, I just follow the third option of the installation screen (that one that says something related with video…sorry!).
I really didn’t understood why the normal options didn’t worked for me, but as I said before, I’m thinking about video card issues.
Now the bad news: after the installation, when we reboot the pc, the system starts (asking login, password and some others tweaks) but something’s wrong: video issues!
The screen is half divided, and with horrible, horrible colors, hardly understandable!
That’s is for me. Probably if I knew a little better of Linux, I would be able to understood this and solve it, but I’m somehow a newbie, and it’s too much for me.
I was really eagerly to try pclinuxos, but I decided to wait, and try the future 2012 release… maybe this issues would have been solved!

Nevertheless thanks for all your support…  ;)

Ps:Again, sorry for the bad english! ;D

Hi,

Linux users, even newbies, usually don't give up so easily. So would you go to the end of the boot, even with the option number 2 (safe mode) and once there, you will be in a black console (as single user, and root), type lspci | grep VGA (lspci with a small case L) and write down the content ?

Then come back and tell us what the video card is really, please. It can't be an Intel HD I think, because they are usually perfectly supported... :/

.......

Those are  'normal'  options.

You should have tried them when first advised and avoided a lot of wasted time and frustration.  ;)

Hi guys, how are you?

Well, melodie, I did what you ask for, and here’s the result:

“VGA compatible controller: intel corporation 2nd generation core processor family integrated graphic controller (rev 09)”

So… what do you think?!

Ps:I also took 2 pictures to show you how's the look of the screen (after installation reboot).

EDIT: Removed links to facebook pictures!

here’s the result:
“VGA compatible controller: intel corporation 2nd generation core processor family integrated graphic controller (rev 09)”

So… what do you think?!

Here is mine:
Code: [Select]
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
It seems to me that the informations shown in your machine are minimalist, but... maybe there is nothing more to get from it. Is the driver in use "Intel" ? You can know it by extracting the information from the /etc/X11/xorg.conf file, this way:

(as root in init1 same method as preceeding):

Code: [Select]
# grep Driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf
The result here is:
Code: [Select]
# grep Driver /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Driver "intel"

(don't type the # at the start of the line, it is here only to remember you are typing in a root terminal).

Next, you can try to use the automatic detection from Xorg. Move the xorg.conf out of the way, and reboot once or twice. You can move it out of the way by renaming it, so that Xorg does not see it anymore. (You could also delete it, but then you would not have it for use anymore).

in the same init1 root terminal:

# cd /etc/X11  //this is meant to move into the /etc/X11 directory
# mv xorg.conf xorg.conf-backup  //this is to move xorg.conf file out of the way

Then, type "reboot".

Ps:I also took 2 pictures to show you how's the look of the screen (after installation reboot).

The picture is blurry. I can't see what it is.

Once you have tried what is above, tell us what happens. Next, I have one more idea.
