Kmetronome [FIXED, not really broken :) ]
« on: November 20, 2011, 08:26:28 PM »
KMetronome was in our repo prior to the big updates years ago and it just disappeared. I'm still trying to build it correctly and I thought I had until I tested it ... no sound! I rebuilt it again and didn't really spot any noticeable error. I launch it on the konsole and it did not really give me much to go on.

I've posted the SRPM and if anyone can take a look at it or maybe even package it correctly, it would be a good addition to our repo and it would be a useful tool to many of our musicians in the community.

The app also needs drumstick so I've included that as well.

Source RPM download:
kmetronome-0.10.0-1_archie_2011.src.rpm
drumstick-0.4.0-1_archie_2011.src.rpm

I am hoping to hear some feedback from our community.

It probably requires a midi program running like timidity or fluidsynth running to generate the sounds.

Are you saying that there might not be anything wrong with the app other than Require a MIDI app to be installed as well? But doesn't ALSA have a MIDI driver? At least that is what is on the Hydrogen prefs and the drum machine is running great.

Yes, but the midi app has to be running, not just installed. For example, 'timidity -iA' will run timidity as a server. Then many midi programs require you to select your midi server/connection. Only then do you get sound. I haven't used it in years, but hydrogen always worked because it provided it's own midi capabilities, just like mscore, improvisor, tuxguitar and I think rosegarden, also.

I'll try that out and see what gives. Thanks for the suggestion, Galen. I don't do much DAW stuff. I'm really a "LIVE" player. ;)

EDIT:
Hot dang, Galen. It works! I didn't have any midi stuff around so I opened Hydrogen and set the input port conn and output port conn to Hydrogen and got a loop. ;D

Thanks for explaining this stuff to me.
