R50p Kwin issues
« on: November 17, 2011, 10:21:48 PM »
HELLO!  I'm a linux noob for starters. Running an ibm r50p.  A couple of quick questions/statements.  I LOVE pclos kde.  Tried pretty much every other version of linux with kde, and pclos wins hands down.  However, kwin refuses to use opengl for desktop effects.  Pclos is the only os that has problems using opengl that i've tried on this computer.  Anyone have any ideas?  I've tried using different drivers, but startx just hangs and i have to safe boot and then run xfdrake back to defaults.  Also looking for advice on bluetooth install.  Once again it pretty much works right from a live boot of any other distro, but bluetooth manager in pclos says no bluetooth adapters found.

Thanks!

Hi, your R50p according to Thinkwiki has the same ATI FireGL T2 Mobility graphics chip as my T42p.

The inability to do 3D , or even reasonable 2D, is down to lack of support in the ATI catalyst driver, so that you have to use the "r300/r400/r500 based FireGL" or Xorg "ATI" drivers.

The internal BT is also a problem, until relatively recently (prior to Blueman) it wasn't recognised automatically, and I had to plug in a USB BT adapter.

The internal BT would then be recognised OK until the next boot.

At one stage Blueman, and subsequently BlueDevil, seemed to recognise the internal adapter without any help, but a recent update to BlueDevil reverted back to the original problem.

I now have Blueman installed again and the internal adapter is recognised by Blueman OK.

See this thread for my previous BT experiences;
