Buffalo Airstation?.
« on: October 30, 2011, 05:29:41 PM »
Hi Guys,

I'm looking to get a new router, but i'm not really sure what kind to get, seen this one but being clueless as to what is a good or bad deal with such things i thought i would ask the knowledgable People here, is this a good choice or is there better, i'm just after reliability(as much as is possible).

Well, I have a Buffalo WZR-HP-G300NH, and I'm really happy with it...

The only thing it struggles with (and, I suspect any wireless router would be the same), is playing full size (3.5 GB+) ISO files of DVDs across the network on XBMC.  That's probably a little much to expect of any shared resource at the moment (wired 100 Mbit/s is probably the minimum for that).

Here's a link to the one I have...

I love the Buffalo equipment, seems pretty solid so far over the years.

Also seems to be compatible with most of the after-market firmwares.  dd-wrt, tomato etc.
The idea that Bill Gates has appeared like a knight in shining armour to lead all customers out of a mire of technological chaos neatly ignores the fact that it was he, by peddling second-rate technology, who led them into it in the first place. - Douglas Adams (1952 - 2001)

Actually, the one I have actually shipped from Buffalo with dd-wrt already installed...!! ;)

I bought my first buffalo (g router dont know the name) in 2007 and am very very happy.
2 years back had to setup a wireless bridge and bought a similar one but a different model.

Both of them works great. Almost no disconnects. I also tried tomato on one of them and is good too.

My only recommendation is to try and spend $80+ for a router.  The "cheap" stuff out there can be pretty terrible.

A good bet to grab a nice router is to see if it is DD-WRT compaible.
