Does my hardware meet system requirements?
« on: November 14, 2011, 11:23:11 PM »
Hello all,

I've been a PCLOS fan for some time, but I am not a heavy computer user at home. My last install was the E17 version on my older desktop. I neglected to keep Synaptic updated and last night when I finally did, E17 broke. No big deal; time to try something different anyway...

KDE doesn't work on my system and I assume it something to do with this:

The bad news is users with older legacy video cards included in most dated computers may be functionally reduced due to many depreciated xorg video drivers.
My video adapter is a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 4000 with 64 MB ram, in a "VIA CPU to AGP2.0/AGP3.0 Controller", on a Asus motherboard with Sempron 1.6 GHz (single core) and 1 gig of RAM.

Does the above quote apply to the PCLOS Openbox version, or should I be good to go if I install it? I don't play games. Just browsing, downloading, watching videos, doing office stuff, and burning and ripping. This computer has always been fine until this Xorg update (assuming that's the reason.)

Thanks.

It should be fine. You might have to use the nouveau or nv driver or there might even be a proprietary driver. The worst that should happen is you won't get 3d effects.
