file:///home/skywalker/Downloads/jre-6u27-linux-i586-rpm.bin
file:///home/skywalker/Downloads/jre-6u29-linux-i586-rpm.bin

Both were installed by SU Commands; I've used Synaptic to uninstall 29 but don't know whether it got rid of it all

Most probably you did. jre-6u29-linux-i586-rpm.bin is a container for jre-6u29-linux-i586-rpm and if you uninstalled that package with Synaptic you should be rid of this Java version -- except for the configuration files in /home/<yourname>/.java. To be on the safe side I'd delete that folder or rename it to something else before installing task-java with Synaptic. If you just rename it instead of deleting it you can restore its contents should it become necessary, which it probably won't.

(You could check if a number of Java folders exist and aren't empty, as for instance /usr/lib/jvm, but I don't think it matters as any remaining ones probably will be overwritten when you install Java with synaptic. The same goes for any other jvm-* folders under /usr/lib. As your install is so new you shouldn't have to worry about any other java-* folders under /usr/lib.)
