[SOLVED] Working in different desktops, is it possible?
« on: November 13, 2011, 01:34:49 AM »
Hi,

I don't if the following option is possible or not:

"While working in different desktops, say for example, d1 and d2; suppose I have opened some applications in d1 and while switching to d2 (desktop2), the applications of d1 should remain NOT shown or should remain hidden (even on the bottom panel) so that it looks and feels as if entirely new desktop is there. If, while working in d2, even the opened applications or documents or Firefox (of d1) remain there in the bottom panel too, it causes a confusion when hitting a particular application (shown in the bottom panel) to open it, and we eventually (without desire) go to d1 (if hit the application is of d1, from the bottom panel)."

Thx.

First this appears to be in the wrong section of the forum as it does not relate to the website ...
EDIT: It has been moved  :D

You have not said what DE you are using, but taking KDE4 as an example .....

When you refer to the bottom panel you are referring maybe to SmoothTasks which displays an icon for the applications in use at the time.

To have only the apps in use for the current Desktop displayed in SmoothTasks right click on the SmoothTasks section, select SmoothTask Settings, and under the 'General' heading tick the two boxes
"Only show tasks from current desktop"  and  "Only show tasks from the current screen"

SmoothTasks will then only show the icons for the applications in use in the current desktop.

Hopefully that is what you wished to know.

regards.

Hi,

Yeah, it solved the problem. But there is no option coming where written is 'Smooth Task' rather what I get is 'Task Manager Settings' and in that in General -> Filters I got those options.

In fact this only I was seeing. I understand the option 'Only show tasks from the current desktop' but I didn't understand exactly the option 'Only show tasks from the current screen'....

Thx.
