[Original post not solved] Anyone having trouble with chromium
« on: November 12, 2011, 11:24:15 AM »
First problem I started seeing a few days ago was it stopped working correctly on Pandora now it stopped displaying my gmail properly. I have deleted the Chromium folder under .cache and that didn't solve any of the trouble. Is there any other places that I need to look? I have looked but don't see anything related to Chromium. My install is up-to-date I have rebooted and still no joy.

[edited]
This has not been solved for me. The fixes that Texstar talks about had no effect on my problem. Because i don't have an Nvidia card and I don't have the nvidia drivers installed.

Uninstalled Chromium ran Bleachbit as user and root installed Chromium still have same problem.

Am having problems with my desktop pc's Chromium browser.... it won't launch at all.  When I type "chromium-browser" at the command line, the error message is: "Segmentation fault"

My desktop PC install is up-to-date, same with my netbook --- but Chromium there works fine!  ???

Currently downloading the chromium-browser package from repos and will reinstall once done. I'll post results later.

If you are using the Nvidia current driver you need to go into Synaptic, remove all of the nvidia drivers then install

dkms-nvidia-current-280.13-1pclos2011.i586.rpm
x11-driver-video-nvidia-current-280.13-1pclos2011.i586.rpm

Hi Tex,

Thanks for the heads-up. Chromium still didn't start after reinstall.

In synaptic, the following items turned up as installed when I searched "nvidia":

dkms-nvidia-current-285.05.09-1pclos2011
libdri-drivers-experimental-7.11-2pclos2011
x11-driver-video-nouveau-0.0.16-0.20110613.5pclos2011
x11-driver-video-nv-2.1.1.8-5pclos2011
x11-driver-video-nvidia-current-285.05.09-1pclos2011

Am I to remove all of them before I install the two packages you posted?

x11-driver-video-nvidia-current-285.05.09-1pclos2011

No, only the ones with nvidia in the name.

These are the only Nvidia-current drivers in the 32bit repo.

dkms-nvidia-current-280.13-1pclos2011.i586.rpm
x11-driver-video-nvidia-current-280.13-1pclos2011.i586.rpm

The 285.05.09 was removed due to kde desktop effect crashes and chromium issues.

Are we talking about PCLinuxOS 32 bit? Did you install the 280.13 drivers?

FYI, PCLinuxOS 64 bit still has the 285.05.09 drivers.

The drivers you want are:

dkms-nvidia-current-280.13-1pclos2011.i586.rpm
x11-driver-video-nvidia-current-280.13-1pclos2011.i586.rpm

The only way they will show up in the 32 bit repo is to remove the 285 drivers then the 280 will show up as installable.

I am using 32-bit PCLOS.

So I removed:

dkms-nvidia-current-285.05.09-1pclos2011
x11-driver-video-nvidia-current-285.05.09-1pclos2011

... and then, like you said, the 280.13 drivers  appeared.

After selecting the two packages for installation, I am now able to write this reply using the Chromium browser. ;)

Thank you very much, Tex!!!  :)

Great! Danged ole Nvidia slipped us a bad one with the 285 drivers.

I am using Firefox, not Chromium.  Should I remove the 285 drivers anyway?

I'm currently having the same segfault problem with Chromium, although Synaptic reports that I have the following version of the nvidia packages:
dkms-nvidia-current-290.10-1pclos2011
x11-driver-video-nvidia-current-290.10-1pclos2011

Is the 290 version affected the same as the 285?

Removing the packages causes Chromium to work again, but then when I next allow Synaptic to do an update, they are reinstalled. I have an Intel graphics card, so I don't even need these drivers. Can I stop them being automatically reinstalled?

Thanks, this worked for me.  I'll know where to go if I start getting segfaults again.
