If I choose the full synaptic update, it says it will delete most of the system.
If I choose to update any single app, it says: "Depends: rpmlib(PayloadIsLzma) (<=4.4.6-1) but it is not installable".
A long synaptic terminal output says    rpm settype 276

This is the light E17 pclinuxos, and the kernel is  2.6.38.3-pclos1.pae.bfs

I don't mind doing a new install, but this is pretty weird. It's been about 2 months since I
used synaptic.

I'll try reloading from a different repository.

Edit: changed repos, and it says I have broken held packages...three printing apps are
shown as broken, out of the blue, since I have never used a printer on this system!

I'll remove them, and try again...

also found two RPM::Ignore entries, removed those, tried a few repos, still getting
the payload error, or delete the world option...might be time to reinstall  :-\

Have you run aptupgrade?

Please see:

http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php/topic,92661.0.html

I also have troubles with that rpmlib in several builds not just newest. And that link goes somewhere I can't go. I will google and see can I get an answer.

Hello and welcome to the board, jombo!

Which version of PCLinuxOS you are using?
Open a terminal and type
Code: [Select]
cat /etc/versionPost output here...
There still new isos available, aptupgrade will not longer working.

Regards
Daniel

Thanks Daniel I been around for years just a quiet reader is all I love PCLinux very good stuff I seldom ask for help just google and hack it out myself lol.. The one I am using just now is 2007 1 PCLinuxOS but I have this same troubles with several builds. This is a VM that I setup long time ago. I been using it because other than the very old KDE builds I haven't been able to get VMtools installed and I did get it working in this one and I am partial to Gnome my old VM host has a limited memory just 1gig so Gnome runs much better using 400 meg. But I have many VMs and most of them have this same trouble with synaptic. Which ones can't say without testing I have too many. But once I get it fixed on this one then I will be able to sort out the others.

One I played with last night for a few hours trying to fix it was pclinuxos-gnome-2010.12 I killed it a couple times trying with the install of the rpms. Nice thing abt VMs easy to back em up and test. What I tryed in it was I think what that above link is about but I got it elsewhere. It was 6 or 7 rpms and an install script to update the rpm and Synaptic I think. It killed it all together. I have this one pretty well the way I want it and really need no updating because I neglected to do it years ago when I set up the VM (duh). A lot of the stuff I manually updated. But I would like to sort it out that would let me get VMtools working on the 2010 I think.

I forget how I did VMtools in this thing but it is working been too long ya know. I don't much like the newer builds they are to intense for my gear here and I just play with em anyways for learning is all. But I use this one lots just about all the time this is a very cool build. Fast and sleek. I have a newer FF and lots manually added. I think I even have this troubles with newer ones but I forget. I will boot em and look but VMtools no dice in any except old KDEs and this one.
