[SOLVED] HP printer not detected
« on: November 10, 2011, 02:03:19 AM »
Hi all!

I've now come round to wanting to print using my HP Laserjet 1300.  Using Synaptic CUPS is installed as is HPlib package.  With printer switched on during boot it's not detected.  In PCC > Manage Your Hardware > Browse & Configure Hardware I checked the box to autodetect printers.  In Configure Printing & Scanning > Setup The Printer, Print Job Queues etc. I click the button and nothing happens!

Searching the forums on similar issues would indicate I need Printerdrake installed as it's not on LiveCD's (?? see below).  Searching the repo (I'm on plus) couldn't find it.

I'm on Zen mini and the printer is connected to a parallel printer port and it works perfecly well with the other OS's on my box.  The strange thing is, when I first tried out PCLOS the other year, using a LiveCD KDE version, the printer was picked up straight away and printed out a test page!

Any ideas what I'm missing?  :-\

Thanks.

Try to install "task-printing" from Synaptic, and try again  :) ("task-printing-hp" is maybe even enough - I don't know)

Hi Rubentje  ;D

Thanks for your response.  I'll give it a go tonight and see what happens.  I'll let you know in the morning...

Thanks  ;)

..........WHAT exact PCLOS version are you using?  Make sure you are all UPDATED and such... many changes since last year.   The Newest =2011.09 : under PCC >HARDWARE> set up printer> clik on "ADD" .....then wait a minute or two {or 3} ....it will find it, have patience.   then make sure you set it for default if need be.  There is no "PRINTERDRAKE" like in the older versions... ???

Some info on your printer:  http://www.openprinting.org/printer/HP/HP-LaserJet_1300

I have the same annoyance here (( that is, before the update of today Friday 11 ).
However, if I go to : PC/more apps/printing/HP.... ( in the menu ), then every thing works fine !

Will try with the new update today. Must get other cartridge first .

edit: I have a HP Deskjet D2360

Morning all!

Thanks all of you for your comments... the good news is that downloading task-printing did the trick  ;D
Bit odd though that it has to pull drivers for every other printer under the sun to go with it as dependencies... I do so hate uneccessary bloatware filling up the harddrive (lol)

I'll mark the thread as solved.  Thanks  ;)

Hi wharfhouse - bit of info if you would please.

Was that the "full" task-printing or task-printing-hp? (as mentioned by Rubentje) as I believe the hp one "limits" the drivers it installs.
PCLinuxOS 32bit KDE 4.10.1; kernel-3.4.11-pclos1.bfs & 64bit 3.2.18bfs; NVidia GeForce 8400GS 1GB 310.19 driver

Hi menotu,

Nice to hear from you again  ;D

Yes no problem...I had already downloaded task-printing-hp when I saw it in the repo but clearly wasn't enough hence my thread, whereas task-printing per se I noticed pulled in, apart from all the other drivers, what looked like additional configuration files as well.  Obviously did the trick! :)
