<SOLVED>PCLinuxos -32-kde4
« on: November 09, 2011, 11:46:20 PM »
Hi to all you gurus,
I have a dvd of "The Princess and the frog" dual layer Disney.
It is very difficult to play and stops occasionally then continues.
It is not possible to copy this disk, which I need to do as I don't want to carry these dvd's about when traveling.
Do you know any one else that has had this type of problem?
I had a similar problem with a dvd about 2 years ago.
Yup it is me.

OK, you didn't mention what you tried to get a copy of the dvd on your HD... (how did you try to accomplish this?)
Then we can probably give some more specific instructions  8)

On the basis that the copy protection is the one where Disney have deliberately introduced a break (or breaks) in the track ...

Use Vobcopy from the command line ..... it will begin to copy until it meets a part of the disk that it cannot read, and fails.
That could indicate that it met with a break in the track, placed there deliberately to prevent apps from copying it. There may be more than one such break.

You can then use vobcopy again, but this time with the   -b   option using the location it previously stopped at, plus some small figure you reckon might get it to start after the break. Try again and if it meets another break do the same again.

This is a bit of a trial and error ....  but with a little persistence you can get to start just at the main title and it should run through without further problems.

regards.

OK,
I tried DVD95 and K9COPY!!

what about trying dd? to get an iso?
Do you think it would work?
I will now try vobcopy and see what I get.
Many thanks for returning some info.

maybe dd-rescue ......  which should continue after trying for a while, whereas  dd   will just stop if it cannot read further.

Hi  to all,
dd_rescue finished after some 3 days, produced an iso image but it was not readable nor did it produce a dual-layer disc the was playable. I also tried VLC  to create an image but that did not work either. It appears to have created an image (after about 1.5 hrs) but I could not find it anywhere on the system!!
Does this constitute the end of video copying under GNU-linux and indeed under Windows?

Nope.

Use vobcopy as per previous post  ;)

Hi Just18,
I used 'vobcopy' and it worked. Many thanks, I now have an image I can play on Linux. BUT I cannot now create a dvd from the image!!!
I created a 'video_ts' folder and copied the image into that folder and burnt it to a dual-layer disk, but nothing will open the disk reporting an error in the structure of the disk.
Of course I am missing all the other files that would be there!!
Any help in this direction please?

Try DVDStyler .....  one of my favourites.

Just drop the video file into it and it will do its thing ........  I don't use it to control the burn, as I prefer to burn the media after I have checked it.
