There must be a way to do this but I haven't found it. It's probably something right in front of me but it hasn't slapped me in the face yet...

When I make or update documents in LO Writer and LO Calc, I have always backed them up immediately to a flash drive as well as saving them on the hard drive in my laptop. I'm just starting to work with LXDE (and returning to PCLOS) but I can't find a method of telling Write and Calc to save the document again on the flash drive. They find the hard drive with no problem (since that's where the document originated).

Can someone please point me (and my documents) in the right direction? I am stymied right now...

Gateway laptop (ancient), PCLOS LXDE 2011.6 only, fully updated to yesterday, 100 GB HDD, I GB RAM, no other OS, only external device is a printer (that works very well).

Easy way --- insert your flash drive and when asked to open in your File Manager, do so. Open another instance of your file manager, go to the directory where your files are saved and drag 'n drop (or copy and paste) onto your flash drive.

Under "file" use "Save As"  Chose where you want to save your file and click "SAVE"  Yes, it is really that simple!

True - however, you need to make sure that your flash drive is mounted!  Otherwise Libre will not know about it.

Thank you for your responses. My PC was away from desk due to a "technical" malfunction with the CD/DVD drive. I thought that it was getting old, like me... However, it turned out to be the actual DVDs that I use. It seems that one must not purchase very inexpensive media to ensure proper functionality...

However, the "technician", in testing the DVD hardware, corrupted the hard drive and LXDE. How? I'm not sure and didn't press the point. I had prepaid him to check the hardware and told him I would reinstall my operating system. I didn't think he could do it...    ::)  From the LiveCD, LXDE is working fine. I'm using it to thank you for your prompt responses to this query and will reinstall later today.

I did make a document in Leafpad and used the "My Documents" icon to locate my "flash drive". I don't know why the "flash drive" stick wasn't found before but it wasn't there when I posted my query earlier this week.

I appreciate your responses and hopefully, on reinstall, it will be right in front of my eyes when I go to save and/or retrieve documents.

LXDE reinstalled and operating well. Just tweaking the settings to my preferences. LXDE will take a bit of getting use to but it seems to run fairly quickly on my ancient (pre-2006) laptop.

Thank you for your suggestions. I found that using Neal's suggestion, dragging and dropping the document from the hard drive file to the flash drive file (or vice-versa) works very well. Just need to get use to doing it...

I expect I will have more questions/situations as I become familiar with LXDE.
