Thank you for your responses. My PC was away from desk due to a "technical" malfunction with the CD/DVD drive. I thought that it was getting old, like me... However, it turned out to be the actual DVDs that I use. It seems that one must not purchase very inexpensive media to ensure proper functionality...
However, the "technician", in testing the DVD hardware, corrupted the hard drive and LXDE. How? I'm not sure and didn't press the point. I had prepaid him to check the hardware and told him I would reinstall my operating system. I didn't think he could do it...

From the LiveCD, LXDE is working fine. I'm using it to thank you for your prompt responses to this query and will reinstall later today.
I did make a document in Leafpad and used the "My Documents" icon to locate my "flash drive". I don't know why the "flash drive" stick wasn't found before but it wasn't there when I posted my query earlier this week.
I appreciate your responses and hopefully, on reinstall, it will be right in front of my eyes when I go to save and/or retrieve documents.
