Problem with mouse response to double-click
« on: November 01, 2011, 01:42:23 PM »
I am having a problem with an old laptop running LXDE when my wife uses it. She has some arthritis in her right hand (she is also left handed naturally but uses a mouse right handed) and finds it difficult to double-click fast enough to activate the desktop icons. Yes I know I could use single click but she is a Windows user and expects it to work the same way she uses on Windows!

Is there an easy way to change how quickly you have to do the double-click, I need to have a longer time interval to recognise a double-click.

Neal I have tried that, presumably it is the sensitivity that needs adjusting but when I do run that the change does not stick - as soon as I exit and run it again its back at 100. Am I doing something wrong?

Did you adjust the acceleration?

No only the sensitivity as I thought acceleration was related to mouse movement across screen which seems OK.

Adjust the acceleration with the change in sensitivity.

No neither setting stick, as soon as I go back in they are back where they were.

~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/desktop.conf lines #20 to 25 deals with your mouse settings. Note that this is a hidden file.

My wife's login does not have that file or a lxsession directory in .config however my login does have such a file and changes made in the gui do indeed stick.

As root, copy the lxsession folder from your account to hers.

Neal that is what I thought I would try. Just a little concerned that when I created my wife's login this did not get created.

Thanks for that....

Sadly having got the settings to stick now I am not really getting the result I wanted/expected. I have tried setting the sensitivity to both extreme ends and still find that a slow double click is not really taking. It is difficult to quantify but my gut feeling is that this adjustment makes no discernible difference to what is detected as a double click.

The best solution is to switch to single click. I do understand that she doesn't "want" this, but nevertheless, it is the best solution.
