Font size unreadable
« on: November 01, 2011, 09:14:50 AM »
Hi, I have installed Ktorrent, this seems to have also installed an almost complete KDE4 system too? I can live with that but at the same time it has wrecked my LXDE system. The text size of all desktop components (icons, menus, windows etc.) is so small its unreadable. Fortunately Firefox still works fine (I cant read the menu bar but the browser window is OK). How can I restore the font size? I cant use the UI because I cant read it ;-) The text at login has always been this tiny size, I'd like to make that readable too.

Pete

System is Intel Atom and Nvidia Ion based.

Open lxterminal > type in this command -- leafpad ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/desktop.conf > type the <Enter> key > the eighth line down shows your font size. I set mine to 14.

Thanks for that Neal, unfortunately when leafpad opens there is an empty page. Again the text is microscopic so even if anything did load I'd never be able to read it  ::) During my time in "minute text world" I seem to have clicked every item in the config screens trying (in vain) to get readable text. I did manage to get the desktop item descriptions up in size, but alas I also had 14 desktops, and lost the window buttons during my insane "its got to be here somewhere" clicking. Its been a couple of years since I used PClos due to hardware issues, I'm back and liking what I see so just going to re-install. No big issue, I'll not bother with Ktorrent this time  :D

Regards and thanks, Pete

It could be because you entered wrong file name.

Try again please with exactly this (you can copy it from the screen and paste in Terminal):
Quote
leafpad ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/desktop.conf

If it doesn't open may be the file is missing somehow. Ensure this by the next:
Quote
ls ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/desktop.conf

This searches for the file and if it is there you'll see something similar to my output here:
Quote
[Vortex@thenudiebar ~]$ ls ~/.config/lxsession/LXDE/desktop.conf
/home/Vortex/.config/lxsession/LXDE/desktop.conf
[Vortex@thenudiebar ~]$

If you miss that file here is a copy of mine:

Quote
[Session]
window_manager=openbox-lxde

[GTK]
sNet/ThemeName=Clearlooks
sNet/IconThemeName=nuoveXT2
sGtk/FontName=Sans 10
iGtk/ToolbarStyle=3
iGtk/ButtonImages=1
iGtk/MenuImages=1
iGtk/CursorThemeSize=18
iXft/Antialias=1

[Mouse]
AccFactor=20
AccThreshold=10
LeftHanded=0

[Keyboard]
Delay=500
Interval=30

Try to use it by opening Leafpad:
Quote
leafpad

copying the content of my file and pasting to Leafpad.
After that save the file as /home/<your user name>/.config/lxsession/LXDE/desktop.conf

Have in mind please .config is a hidden directory.

How can I restore the font size? I cant use the UI because I cant read it ;-)
You could also work this from the LiveCD session booting the from disk that you installed from. Here you could copy the default desktop.conf file to your installed PCLOS system.

If you do reinstall, Transmission is a good torrent client.

Thanks to all for the advice, the text size was just to small to read, so I did a new install. This time I loaded the full KDE package which has Ktorrent. Working fine so very happy.

Thanks again,

Pete
