« on: October 28, 2011, 01:47:02 AM »
Hi.
I just got old laptop acer aspire 1800 with ati x600 card. how can i get it work ? is there any special trick how to do that ? It's first ati card that I have (now I know why I prefer nvidia..).

lspci:

01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M24 1P [Radeon Mobility X600]

when trying to run in terminal: aticonfig showing

aticonfig: No supported adapters detected

dkms-fglrx is installed. problem is that movies on youtube even are working very slowly... that's the problem... any ideas ?

The most recent fglrx driver only works for ATI HD 4000 cards and better. Anything less than that you have to use the xorg ati or radeon driver which still works but with reduced functionality.

thanks Tex, good to now. so what should I do in your opinion ? can i download some older drivers (will work with our xorg?) ? for now i see that is using ati xorg drivers but as I wrote before movies are not working too good (and this laptop is for that :) )... I will try radeon now, maybe will be better. Is there any other option?

Thanks,
siamer

how about version 2010.10 ? this card will work there better (older xorg) so i can install there older flgrx drivers... ? what do you think ? or maybe even older than that ? system don't have to be fully updated even... ;)
