Crow,

Instead of choosing either plug n play or the manufacturer select "Flatscreen 1680x1050" and see if it works then this is starting ot sound like a missfire in the EDID system

All this time I had Flat Panel 1680x1050 except when I tried the HP w1907 and HP w2207 monitor drivers
I shall pass this way but once;
any good therefore that I can do,
or any kindness that I can show
let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

I read the info provided by the link and my only conclusion (almost a concussion) is that either the monitor is not sending the pertinent info or something is not interpreting it as should be in the OS

The other install is in a computer with intel graphics so the drivers could be the culprit

 ???

What we do now?  :-\  I'm tempted to download the drivers from the nvidia site but are the same version that those from the repos

Crow,

Try booting using the boot option 'edd=off' this stop the probe to the monitor, then set up manually again, it may be worth finding out if nvidia still fully support that card too.

I will try the 'edd=off' option N

When you search the drivers in the nvidia site the ION LE send you to the 285.05.09 version but in the supported products ION is not mentioned

The 275.28 nvidia drivers does mention ION LE probably they dropped support.

Make sure you have the dkms nvidia 173 package installed in synaptic (and possibly remove the 280) then try resetting it up.

Didn't work, didn't pick the nvidia 173 package, I'm starting to think that the best route is install the 275.28

Used  'edd=off' in menu.lst and tried to reconfigure, even changed drivers (noveau - nv) but still the same outcome.

Crow,

So far we have been looking at WindowMaker does the same thing happen in IceWM or any of the other WM's?

From what you have told me so far it should.

It is the same in the other WM's and I think is the last Nvidia driver not supporting ION LE Graphics

Finally downloaded a previous version of Nvidia Drivers the 285.05.09 and followed the instructions given here

Uninstalled the Nvidia propietary and Noveau driver
booted in safe mode and cd /home  cd crow  cd Downloads
su to root and ran  sh NVIDIA-Linux-x86-285.05.09.run
asked me for run level 3  so  telinit 3
At the Login I write crow  and then asks for cPassword

from there it won't accept any password.

Same if I try to login as root.

What can I do?

Crow,

Not sure why its not accepting your password as it appears nothing was changed to cause that

boot into single user mode and rest your root password and your user password, then try booting normally, the installation of the non-repo nvidia driver is a unknown element for me so this may or may not work

That driver was in repos and worked fine, if I just could get the .rpm would be easier.

No joy, after the login it asks me for the "rPassword"  ???  PCLinuxOS don't let me be without password in root and anything I input is rejected.

I did it some time ago with Radeon drivers and it wasn't a problem.

I'm gonna initiate a thread about this, maybe someone knows about nvidia drivers

Does booting into single usermode (ie runlevel 1) allow you to change your password, not sure where is drawing the "rPassword" from, its not some thing I have seen in my tests.
