[SOLVED] booting LiveCD fails
« on: October 25, 2011, 10:06:14 AM »
Hola,
there is this postfix or SNMP which interupts the bootprocess.
I want to install to my harddrive.
Is there a command to get to the next loading program aborting the last?
Any solution helpful.
I am little bit command line experienced.
Thank you.

Sorry don't understand :(

What boot options have you tried from those on the Grub page?
Have they all failed?

What are the last few messages on the screen where the boot stops?

First thank you for your interest.
When I use the "Install"-Option of my KDE - Full Monty ISO,
the splash screen appears ... loading ... changing to fullscreen-terminal-mode and than hangs up while loading the SNMP-Net package.
I tried also to install from loaded LiveCD, but the splash screen hangs up ... loading postfix.
A friend told me not to use postfix, but it is loaded automatically if I use the "LiveCD"-Option in startmenu.
( I made a check5sum and ok )
But hey, does it really hang up or only stops loading?

Ah!  Now I understand a little bit ........  sorry I have not used that direct install method.

I always launch into Live session mode to a Desktop and then from there do the install.

Linuxfan,

Try the safe video option. Sounds like you're having an issue with your video chipset.

Bare metal                           VBox
AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core    Single core
4GiB RAM                              1GiB RAM
nVidia GeForce FX 5200          64MB video
LXDE 32bit                            KDE 64bit

Hola at all,
I was a blind fish  ;)
Here comes the solution with your help:
Starting with the videosafemode Option the installation went fine.
I think the problem is the videodisplay driver for my Samsung SyncMaster 940BF Monitor.
The xorg.conf of another PCLinuxOS KDE LiveCD reported that the screen was found, but not the right way configured. So I took a look and found refreshrates with about 80 and 100 Hz. That is too much. At maximum 75 Hz.
A functional "generic"-monitor with max. resolution made me happy at the end :D

Maybe I can help at another place, too.
Thank you
