SOLVED Anyone install PCLOS on Sony VAIO Model PCG-71913L ?
« on: October 23, 2011, 10:02:51 AM »
Is anyone out there running this model using any version of PCLOS? Also designated as Model VPCEH27FX.

Model VPCEH27FX
CPU IntelCore i5 2430M 2.4GHz
Memory  4 GB
HD  Hitachi 600 GB
Bios  R0180Z9

I finally installed 2011.6 but all my pages starting at log in are light-green and pink tinted, using up only the left half of the screen with almost unreadable characters. I tried all kinds of Xorg config stuff but to no avail as yet.

Thanks for checking back so quickly, T6.  According to PCC it's a "2nd Generation core processor family integrated graphics controller" (if that isn't a mouthful)

"00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 09)"

same information you found in pcc

no idea on the state of the support for this i5 with our current kernel

what kernel do you have?

write uname -r in konsole to verify

The kernel is 2.6.38.8-pclos.bfs

I am trying to send you a photograph, but it does not seem to be working:

PS It is amazing that everything works well using the livecd!

don't know if could be useful to try 2.6.38.8-pclos3.pae.bfs on your machine to see if it improves memory management and video support

T6, you did it - I'm typing from my newly updated and totally readable system. After installation of the kernel I was  able to find more choices in the pcc video card section "intel vermillion based...." reboot, and voila, Window$ gone and PCLOS given another chance. Thanks a lot for helping me!
