Where's ifconfig?
« on: October 23, 2011, 12:15:41 PM »
net-tools is installed, but ifconfig and route get a command not found message from bash.
Where are they?

Tried re-installing net-tools, no joy.

DE is XFCE4 base install is PCLOS 2010-12-15 XFCE fully updated.

Does need root privileges. Thanks Leiche.

Odd though, neither Mint Julia XFCE nor Centos require root to run ifconfig.

My lxde instal does not need root to issue "ifconfig".

Works like a "charm"

as mentioned before afaik it should work if the full path of the utility ie '/sbin/ifconfig' is used

it may be dependent if the "let users manage internet connection" is checked when setting up the interface.
