'Shutdown' doesn't shut down
« on: October 22, 2011, 08:03:51 AM »
This topic has come up a number of times on the forum.

But here's a slightly different question.

I have PCLOS LXDE (2011)  installed on two machines.

The 'shutdown' command (from 'logout') works on one machine but not on the other.

I've tried various commands from the terminal (shutdown, halt etc) but they don't work on the awkward machine.

So I suppose it must be a problem with the physical configuration, although the awkward machine is newer and of a higher specification (but nothing out of the ordinary).

I'm not expecting a solution because it must be something rather offbeat. But if anyone has any suggestions, I'd be glad to try them.

Thanks.

Maurice George

Thanks, Menotu.

Yes, I've tried all the appropriate switches.

For example, 'shutdown -a now' stops the O.S. but leaves the machine running.

Similar results with 'halt'.

Maybe I'll just have to get used to pressing the power-off switch on the box.

There are worse things !

Cheers,

Do you have one setup with different MSEC security settings in PCC > Security > Configure System... > System security tab "Allow system reboot and shut down to local users" ?
If you have MSEC set to secure it defaults to "no"
Plan to be spontaneous tomorrow.
