Empty menu after update - Duplicate Issue
« on: October 22, 2011, 07:16:14 AM »
So, this is what happened:
I downloaded the lxde mini iso, installed it and after installation deleted firefox and maybe some other not needed programs (don't really remember). After that I updated all possible things via synaptic ("Mark all upgrades" and applied). And now after that has been done I rebooted and my menu is not showing any items, it's just an empty white field with up and down scroll buttons. What might have caused that and how do I get things back?
P.S.: sorry if this is a duplicate, but there were just so many updates on synapse that i couldn't figure it out myself.
P.P.S.: Really like this linux distro, and would like to use it alot. Great job!

Update: So, I figured out that the menu is empty only when the panel is positioned at the top. Any other positioning works great.
I've searched some info and found that some guy solved this using something called "fork" from : http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=49680
I would greatly appreciate any help on how this thing works and how to install it. Thanks in advance.

Interesting story. Would you mind filling in some details? I wasn't there to see what you did, so answers to some questions are necessary.

Deleted? How did you delete them? What other programs? How did you determine they were not needed? (something that you deleted seems to have been needed.)

Did you perform a full upgrade?

After installation, it is recommended that you perform a full update -- Synaptic > Reload > Mark All Upgrades > Apply and again, Apply --- before installing or removing any software. Installing or removing any software should be done via Synaptic only and should only be done after a full upgrade.

PCLinuxOS is a rolling release distro. It needs to be updated at least once a month - every week is much better. Keeping it fully up to date is the best way to keep it stable.

I've updated first post, please comment anything on that. Firefox and that clipboard manager parcelsomething, obviously not needed. Used synaptic for deletation. But anyway thanks for attention.
