Shouldn't the command be kdelibs4 instead of kde4lib   ???

I helped a friend this morning with the same problem and Neals post with the commands fixed the problem. Line # 1 has a extra space in it between apt-get dist-upgrade.

After kde fails to load, do you get the text login? If so, log in as root. You will be at a terminal prompt at this point. Use these commands:
Code: [Select]
apt-get update && apt- get dist-upgrade
Code: [Select]
apt-get remove kde4lib kde4-config kdebase4 kdebase4-core
Code: [Select]
apt-get install kdelibs4 kde4-config kdebase4 kdebase4-core
Code: [Select]
reboot
Use them in the order given.

At the GRUB boot screen, press F3. Press Enter to select the option shown in the popup window. You will see a line of text and your cursor will be at the end of that line. Enter the number 3, then press enter. You will boot to a non-GUI login screen. Login as root, then run the commands Neal showed. Type reboot to reboot the PC.

Hello,

I've encountered the same problem but the solution Neal mentioned doesn't work for me.
Any other ideas?
I'm thinking of installing another desktop manager (XFCE) for the time being but I'll have to figure out how to do that from the CL.

Thanks.

The command to install another DE would be ---

apt-get install task-name_of_DE

LXDE -- task-lxde
XFCE -- task-xfce4-phoenix
Gnome -- task-gnome
E17 -- task-enlightenment
Openbox -- task-openbox

G´Days
I am having the same problem - only loads to the world, have tried the fix using apt-get but I use a mobile broadband USB stick and don´t know how to get it working from a ¨root login¨ console.
Would dearly appreciate some help.

G¨Day again
Have tried all options in thread but still can¨t get past ¨World¨, I´m sure I need to connect to the ¨Mirrors¨ via my mobile broadband but I don´t know to get it to work from a non GUI console, am hoping not to wipe disk and reload PCLOS (it has worked so well till now).

... hmmm, a wild guess: World -> Word -> Text -> Text console

may be should read as "Have tried all options in thread but still can¨t get past ¨text console¨ "  ::) ;D
