I am new to PCLinuxOS (and pretty new to Linux), and am trying to set up LibreOffice Address Book Data Source for Mail Merge.

When I open the Address Data Source wizard, and select 'Other external data source' (I want to use a spreadsheet) I get the following Error and Info:

SQL Status: HY000

The connection to the external data source could not be established. No SDBC driver was found for the given URL.

A connection for the following URL was requested "sdbc:address:evolution:local".

(and in fact whatever data source I select I get the same error)

In Linux Mint (Gnome) this error was addressed by installing a package called Libreoffice-evolution, or similar.

There doesn't seem to be such a package in Synaptic for PCLinuxOS KDE.

Any advice on how to fix this and get Mail Merge working would be much appreciated (I'd hate to have to scurry back to MS Windows to get my Xmas Card labels printed!)

TIA

I don't know if this helps, but when I want to do a mail merge, I have to open a new database. I get the database wizard and designate that I want to connect to an existing database. From there I connect to my spreadsheet and save it as a database. Then I can do the mail merge. Are you getting your error during this process?

Thanks for the advice.

I probably should have mentioned - I'm also a newbie to LibreOffice!

I get the error when trying to Register my data source. I'm following the LibreOffice writer guide chapter 11, where it says:

For a data source to be directly accessible from within a Writer document, it must first be registered
as described below. You only need to do this once; after that, the data source is available to all
documents in LibreOffice.

So I open the Address Data Source wizard like it says (File →
Wizards → Address Data Source),
but I can't select any of the options without getting that error

I have succeeded in getting my data from the spreadsheet into an odb form now, but when I try to select a data source from within writer (File → New → Labels)

the only database found listed is something called bibliography - mine isn't found (which I guess  is because it isn't registered)?

(I'm plainly no expert - but it still seems to me as if LibreOffice is looking for something called evolution that just ain't there)

Deep Joy! ;D

I have managed to Register my database using the route you suggested.

Many thanks - you're on my Xmas card list!

(I would still be morbidly interested to know if it's only me that gets the error when trying to use the Address data Source Wizard)
