Also the gimp 2.8 will be a perfect candidate for replacing Photoshop... Gimp developers are doing a fantastic job...

Many problems were fixed, many bugs were patched and a good few features were added...

Dear Mr. AndrejL,
 I find Gimp better than PS. It's easier to do the things on Gimp, PS interface is confusing(yeah, more $$$ in a course of PS, sure, Adobe always finds way to get more money from you)
In the other hand, I find Darktable perfect for the ones who ever worked with Lightroom. Btw, I find a rip off a program like Lightroom being charged so expensive and Darktable, which walks and quacks like Lightroom for free ? What world we live in.
But, my question about Gimp is: Finally 16 bits per color channel in Gimp ? It's a very weak argument from the detractors of Gimp, but I would be very happy to see Gimp overcoming this bits per channel issue.
Best regards!

the other day i tried ps and i found that some things are more simple and other are more complicated, can't say which one is better

still gimp with the 3 window interface is not as friendly as the one window interface ps

I would like to try DarkTable, but I can't find it in the repository.
How do I install in in my pclos install?

It seems you may have to develop a workflow using more than one application.  Have you looked at DarkTable?

Unfortunately that package was pulled on the 12th of this month.  Had issues.

Really it is pointless to compare Gimp and PS, both have their weaknesses and ardent followers.

@T6
On the subject of the interface however, I could never understand the 'PS is simpler' when by default there are floating dialogues all over the place.  If needed Gimp can be simplified very easily. A comparison of the two

Gimp http://www.imageno.com/f4nj99ashi5qpic.html

Lots of ways to adjust Gimp, here is one

edit: can't stop the bbs from changing the link so I will have a stab at muxing the url's

The other thing to look at is the use of Activities. The one shown above is for screen capture and has nothing on it except the background and the kicker.

@omscates
Photivo, worth a try. I found the interface a bit tempremental, the drop down boxes would often close before I could change the settings, might be better now or it might just have been me.

Gimp + Davids Batch Processor ( both in the repo ) might be worth a try as an alternative.
My over-long (12 mins, just watch the first couple of minutes ) take on the subject

Thanks rich for the info.  To be completely honest I take interest in these conversations more to garner alternatives for my sister.  I myself can't even seem to find a less time consuming way to organize & tag all my personal family photos, LOL :D  I think I've got photos, 9 to 12 months old, still sitting in unsorted folders ::)....terrible of me :-[

Xnview + Digikam can help you manage your digital photo collection.

It's what I use in a daily basis.

Thanks Agent Smith :)

I'll have to check the differences between Xnview and Gwenview or Digikam's Lightable tool as well.
