As far as I understand it, it's no longer in transit =)

Yeap. That's the place. You may have a tough time choosing between the options, though, so let me recommend that you narrow it down to a choice between Summer Fairy and Black Myst. :) :) :)

Is there a torrent available, for some reason the barebones download will take 4 hours, and I am not sure the ISO will work from a USB stick...

It will work. Just use the PCLinuxOS Live USB Creator. It's in the menu in More Applications > Configuration.

Bare metal                           VBox
AMD Athlon 7750 Dual-Core    Single core
4GiB RAM                              1GiB RAM
nVidia GeForce FX 5200          64MB video
LXDE 32bit                            KDE 64bit

Damm I was so close. Had an old CD of an earlier PClinuxOS, a bit too heavy for a lightweight PC so it sat idling on the spindle for a spell. But I used it to run Live USB creator. It took a couple of tries. And then I booted the laptop; I even had to switch to verbose when the e logo wouldn't budge on the splash animation.

No joy: losetup couldn't mount on the loopback device. Or something to that effect. Probably a bad burn, it said. It also said to try mediacheck but as I've mentioned, mediacheck told me I've got a good CD. Is there maybe a script somewhere so I can run it off the console and make mediacheck look at the stick instead?

I believe there's a VESA option in the GRUB boot menu. See if that one works.

djohnston,

The LiveUSB Creator (iirc it's from PClinuxOS 2010, the blackwood themed e17) only gave back 2 grub options, the second one was with Persistence. I thought it needed vga=791 but I saw the parms were already given. The two scenarios produced the same result.
