Chromium update crash
« on: October 12, 2011, 01:25:35 PM »
All,

I have noticed that with the recent round of updates, that
the Chromium browser does not start. It launches, flashes
up for a moment, then disappears.

It may be worth while to note that the latest NVidia driver
and an update to sqllite3 came along with it.

At least Firefox is still working...

AussieBear.

Is ok here. Try moving /home/yourname/.cache/chromium folder somewhere else.

Thanks to everyone who donates. You keep the servers running.

Did the update this morning on my Lenovo notebook.  No Nvidia card, just an Intel core i3 processor. No problems.  Chromium works fine.

I gave that a shot.  No joy.

When running from the command line is just says:

Segmentation fault

I have two folders in home associated with Chromium.

/home/texstar/.cache/chromium

/home/texstar/.config/chromium

Try to move them and remove and re-install Chromium from the repo. Latest stable is ---- chromium-browser-14.0.835.202-1pclos2011

Moved the .cache/chromium and .config/chromium directories
and performed a complete un-install.

Re-installed chromium-browser-14.0.835.202-1pclos2011 as
suggested.

Prompted to choose a search engine then pffft!  disappeared.

Still getting segmentation fault.

As said before, everything was sweet before the last
round of updates.

No issues with NVidia driver or VLC.  I understand that
sqllite has caused issues in the past.  I will google and
see if I can find anything.

I updated my studio desktop system this evening.it's running an Nvidia G96 GeForce 9400 GT.

Update went sell. Chromium works.  It launches and opens with no problems or errors.

I did do a reboot after the update just to be sure.

Constant crash of Shockwave Flash in Chromium today...

 :'(

 ;)

... on YouTube, Vimeo, Google and others.

Flash works in FireFox though so no problem for me but just an information.

Reinstalling Chromium and renaming /.cache/chromium and /.config/chromium directories in Home doesn't help.

Fully upgraded, yesterday there were related updates:

Quote
chromium-browser (14.0.835.163-1pclos2011) to 14.0.835.202-1pclos2011
...
...
...
flash-player-plugin (10.3.183.10-1pclos2011) to 11.0.1.152-1pclos2011

nVidia 9600GT here, KDE 32 bit.

Now going to check in LXDE 64 bit - checked OK :D.

Someone on the testers mailing list is reporting if you are using Nvidia drivers and Chromium Flash crashes then it will not restart but generates a segfault.

Try to google that or check googles bug database please.

Also we don't use external sqlite in our chromium builds.

The Terminal output: when I open the first new tab

Quote
[Vorteks@thenudiebar ~]$ chromium-browser %u
[6896:6896:156938115:ERROR:native_backend_kwallet_x.cc(594)] Failed to complete KWallet call: The name org.kde.kwalletd was not provided by any .service files
[6896:6896:157120486:ERROR:native_backend_kwallet_x.cc(594)] Failed to complete KWallet call: Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)

After that there's no additional output .

Having had this kind of issue every now and then, I can confirm that if Chromium crashes, at the very least you need to log out to restart it.

Thanks Texstar!
I don't need it that badly because the other browsers are fine. :)

NVIDIA + Chromium ... all good here. No crashes. No Segfault. What could be causing those crashes on your install?

My difference from Georgetoon is that Chromium works with only the flash crashing e.g. not playing.
Don't know why for now.
