Some programs want to open pcmanfm in root mode
« on: October 10, 2011, 11:46:13 PM »
Hi all,

One program in particular, fileroller.  After extracting an archive you get the option to "Show the files". When I click on that button it pops up the root password question (and if I enter the password it opens pcmanfm in root mode with two tabs, one being the unarchive target dir and the other being /root).

Is this normal?

Other programs do it too, but rarely use them and can't recall offhand what they are.

Bruce

mod : Oh sorry - fully up to date LXDE.

??? ??? ??? Can't replicate that behavior here. Have you changed the default settings in PCManFM > Edit > Preferences? If so, what did you change? In particular, what are your settings in the Advanced tab?

I don't think so. As in, here's the info from mine and all the other five users on this machine. (We all have the same problem)

pcmanfm Preferences Advanced Tab says:
terminal emulator=lxterminal
switch user command =gksu  '%s'
archiver integration=file-roller

...AHA! I just remembered the other strange thing. (not pcmanfm but ..)  No-one can use locate any more.  It requires su access.   The error I (and every other user) gets is "locate: can not open `/var/lib/mlocate/mlocate.db': Permission denied".

This has been a continually updated LXDE since you first released it.  Should I re-install from the latest ISO?

(I don't really want to because there is lot's of added stuff - from the repo! (nowhere else! and I try to stick with gtk apps, there is no KDE)

So you have a permissions issue then. This is not due to anything in PCManFM.

PCC > System > Manage users on system >>> is your user set at 500? >>> Edit > Groups tab - is your user part of your group? (your group name will be the same as your user name.

Check who owns what folder / files in your /home. >>> PCManFM > right click > Properties > Permissions tab >>> are you listed as owner and the group as your group name? Check the hidden files / folders, too - like ~/.config/pcmanfm.
