Problems installing on HP DV6T-6100 Quad edition laptop
« on: October 09, 2011, 07:47:21 PM »
Here are some of the specs:
Intel Core i7 2630QM Sandy Bridge
Radeon HD 6490 Graphics (so it's got hybrid graphics)

The problem I think is the Radeon Graphics card.  As I understand it, HP in all their infinite wisdom altered the Radeon driver, so Linux always thinks it's a 6470 instead of 6490.  It never works right, so I don't install FGLRX, and blacklist the graphics card because the integrated Sandy Bridge graphics work just fine.  No, my bios doesn't allow me to disable the card or choose integrated graphics unfortunately.  My problem, seems to be that instead of udev loading the intel graphics kernel module that works, it loads the fglrx that doesn't.  I'll attach a photo showing the screen where it hangs.  X-server crashes and I can't get to a GUI.

Is there a way to stop it from loading the fglrx driver?  Am I missing something?  Anyone know a workaround?  I'm using the 2011.09 iso.  I've also tried the 64bit test4 also, but it hangs at udev and doesn't load anything...

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!!

-Chris

Welcome to the forum, sgtguthrie.  Have you tried booting in Safe Mode?  I think that this will bypass the proprietary video drivers.

yes, those links are working, it is reporting a problem loading a library and then a problem with xorg not finding the screen

about the original reason of the problem, what livecd are you using?

the error, does it happen after you install or while you try to load livecd, sorry for ask this, i'm a little confused here

the video card should be well supported by amd video driver

I'm using the 2011.09 kde. Also tried the 64bit test 4, but it never even got this far...lol!

This is all trying to load the livecd, never gotten to a gui. Works great in virtualbox :-)

Thanks, I've never had this either. Sometimes graphics are jacked up with the livecd, but never had one just not boot. I tried mandriva today for shits and giggles and it didn't boot either. Knowing that's pclos's roots, I thought that might shed some light...thanks again. Should I try pm or Twitter?
