Using perl and sendmail to do mass mailings
« on: August 16, 2012, 01:40:59 PM »
Hope someone can help with this. For the longest time I've played with the idea of doing a newsletter off of my genealogy website, maybe start as a straight textfile or HTML.

But instead of having to send thru my email address would like something a little faster, I remember the days using mass mail and win 98, took forever even on POTS to send maybe a couple of hundred emails to subscribers of the list I maintained and the website that went with it.

I ran across this article:

http://linuxshellaccount.blogspot.com/2008/06/using-perl-to-handle-mass-mailing-in.html

And am interested, I think I've figured out most of the script, but have questions.

From the looks it's not sending thru my email provider.

Can it (script) reside in it's own directory and be run from there and have the message and email account files in that directory or does it have to reside in root/~.

If you would rather do this privatly, email off my website www.bullocks.org. I understand this is a spammers way of doing things but I'm not interested in doing that sort of thiing..
