internet connection management / internet cafe software?

Hi

I live in a VERY small town and we are setting up a community house. (neighbourhood house)

I have donated a PC running PCLinuxOS XFCE and I am its administrator.
I hope to get a few local people interested in Linux as a lower cost option.

The co-ordinator of the community house has a Windows laptop provided by the employer, and we may soon get permission to share that internet connection with the Linux PC, to provide public internet access. (it is a USB wireless stick connection, we have no ADSL in the area.) We still are getting details of the monthly download limit, so we can see how tight we have to be with download file sizes.

We need some sort of software on the Linux PC to monitor its usage - both time and download MB. It doesn't need to be server/client, just a window the co-ordinator can open to show the time and MB download of the current session.  (Trying to keep it simple.)

I'd appreciate any suggestions of: suitable monitoring software; suggestions for how to make it work; advice about any problems I need to anticipate.

This will be a VERY small scale - 1 or 2 PCs max so I don't need or want a full on cybercafe management system.

I use KNemo to follow my download (and upload) statistics.  

It can show periods for: 24hrs in hourly increments, Days, Weeks, Months and Years.

Custom Notifications can be set for when traffic goes over a certain limit.

I'm using PCLinuxOS XFCE - is there an equivalent to KNemo for XFCE?

I had a look in Synaptic, to download KNemo it wants to bring in heaps of KDE stuff which I'd prefer to avoid if I can.
Trying to keep the system light, it is an old computer box.  (AMD 1100MHz,  768Mb ram.)

I'll fire up my VBox install of Phoenix and see whats knocking around.

Edit - nothing jumps out, but mebbe someone can provide a solution for you.

I use gkrellm to monitor many resources in xfce including my metered internet usage.
