[SOLVED] Phoenix 2011 and XFCE power manager problem

In Phoenix 2011 the XFCE power manager that I installed via Synaptic doesn't allow me to change AC settings. For instance: the 'spin down HDD' checkbox is grey'd out. I can't change the sliders either. I'm on a desktop. I wanted the option of spinning down the HDD, that's why I installed this manager.

the upower modules are not compatable with XFCE 4.8 which is why they are not installed as default ... these are being worked on to be in the 4.10 release .... you can install upower from synaptic but be warned some things may not work

When I try to install xfce-power-manager I get a dependancy error. It depends on libxfce4panel.so.1. libxfce4panel is not on the repos. Is this normal?

I'm using gnome-power-manager at the moment

I installed xfce4-power-manager myself just now and didn't get any dependancy error.

The only thing that showed up after the install is the following and is shown with every app/program and update install:

Error in file "/usr/share/applications/listen.desktop": "audip/mp3" is an invalid MIME type ("audip" is an unregistered media type)

do you have xfce4 added to your repo sections in synaptic???

Just wanted to point out that many are using gnome-power-manager with xfce 4.8.  However if you wish to keep a pure native xfce desktop then...well I could'nt ever have much luck with xfce-power-manager, hope it improves.

There is no pure environment under PCLOS anymore it ius now located on my server if you wish to use it

Edit the file "listen.desktop" as root and change the entry "audip/mp3" to "audio/mp3". You shouldn't get that message after that...

@Sproggy: I wasn't aware that not all mirrors contain the same packages... I was using a greek mirror that didn't have the "xfce4" section. I changed it and I installed xfce4-power-manager without problem. But, it's not working as expected. So I'm going back to gnome-power-manager. Thanks for the tip!
