There is considerable information on this problem on this forum, however, my problem differs, in that, I cannot open the new installation because this error message comes at the login page. If I attempt to open the computer using the username or root, upon entering the password, I get the error message. When I attempt to open the computer using Failsafe, I get the same error message at Login. I am not experienced with command line, so although I am able to open a root shell, I do not know the command that allows me to read the kdm logfile and don't know that I would recognize the error or how to correct an incorrect file.
Here is a perhaps relevant Posting on this forum for a similar problem. "This also happened to me today ( I hadn't done an update for about a month.) However, I was still able to login and get a terminal as root and found my original kdmrc file had been renamed kdmrc.rpmsave so I copied it:- cp /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc.rpmsave /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrcEverything now back to normal - thanks". Since I am unable to open to a working computer, I am unable to attempt his comment.
I am much more able to resolve the problem than my neighbor, but as you can see, I am not qualified to fix this problem. He broke his OS by attempting to install microsoft games on his Linux OS, I believe.
I installed copy of PCLOS 2010, and after a huge update, 1100+ packages, I tried to reboot the system.
When working on my neighbors computer, I don't have access to the Internet or the forum from his computer, now that this error has occurred. Is there any simple method of repair to this problem, and by that I mean, would installing a more recent copy of the application produce less updates and upgrades that may not duplicate this error? Thanks for any help.
