Screen Resolution
« on: September 27, 2011, 02:11:39 PM »
I have been asked to provide a liveUSB for someone to test and play with PCLOS, with a view to going dual boot on their new Laptop ......  a Dell Inspiron N5110

This laptop has a native resolution of 1366x768

As has been noted elsewhere, this resolution is probelmatic.
I booted to a root prompt and changed the resolution using PCC, and from there booted into the Desktop.
I cannot expect a prospective new PCLOS user to do this.

Unfortunately this particular laptop will not boot to a Desktop (using the KDE version) with whatever resolution 1024x768 that the live system is choosing.

So the question is .....  is there a means of passing an option on the boot line that will correct this behaviour?
Without something like this a live session will apparently not run on this laptop.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

My laptop uses the same screen resolution (1366X768). LiveCD of the Phoenix edition, also starts in a 1024X768 and the same resolution is kept after install. But the graphical environment shows with no problem. And I didn't have to be root to change the screen resolution to 1366X768. Just asked for a restart.

So it's the same situation on a different laptop with a different PCLOS Edition. Is it a problem of the KDE or a problem of the laptop's screen?

That particular laptop refuses to display the 1024x768 resolution during live boot up to Desktop.

Another latop I tried displayed OK and the res was easy change.
