New user DVD issues
« on: September 22, 2011, 07:14:15 AM »
Hi all
Have just changed from Zen-Mini to LXDE, didn,t like what,s happening to Gnome. Anyway i formatted the drive and started afresh with LXDE fully updated. When i insert a DVD the system freezes,if i reboot with the disc still in all is ok until i eject it and the system freezes again, again forcing an unclean shutdown cause nothing else is available i.e keyboard, mouse.
Am pretty sure this is a simple config issue and am looking for advise on how to correct it please.

p.s
Melodie,is the theme used in E17,brushed aluminium, available for Openbox somewhere

Are you burning or playing the DVD? What kind of DVD is it? Which app (player or burner) are you using?

Before inserting the DVD, start the app you want to use from the terminal. Post any terminal feedback here. Be exact, please. "Something like" won't do, okay?

2 things to try --

Delete vlc's config folder from your home. PCManFM > View > Show Hidden >>> open the .config folder and look for the vlc folder. This will be recreated on the next start of vlc.
Reinstall vlc. This may help.

The command to check your hardware (to see if it is accurately detected) is lshw.
Or open PCC (menu > more applications > configuration > configure your computer) - Hardware - Browse and configure hardware >>> CD/DVD burners (click to expand) - sr0 (drive designation).

libdvdcss is installed along with the others, just played a film but it happened again when i ejected the disc after i closed VLC. I ejected the disc by pressing the button on the drive itself. Do i have to unmount first? if so is there a config to change that?
Should i instal task multimedia? will this load to many excessive packages? Have tried M player in the past i don,t really get on with it

Ok did that and was well, played the DVD,ejected while playing, inserted audio disc that played then put the film in again, played and ejected while playing.
I checked the guest a/c groups as well and noticed FUSE wasn,t ticked,so not a member. What is FUSE and should i unmark it on my user account?

PCC > System > Manage users on system > Users tab > click on your name, and a new window will open > Groups tab > disable fuse.
reboot and play again a dvd...
