Before I do that think about this: (I cannot resist the trial and error method - I'm an experimental scientist!)

I've just updated my trial LXDE installation fully except that all 8 gutenprint pakages were pinned at 5.2.6.

It still prints OK, so it seems to be something in the gutenprint suite that's causing the problem.

Do you still want those long files?

If you are saying that you are happy with the printing right now, I would like to put you on hold for a little while?  :)

Yes, that's OK.  I have always been able to print of course, by using an older installation, but it's easier not to have to switch!  And it would be nice to have the problem fixed.

libijs1 (0.36-77pclos2011) to 0.36-81pclos2011

Today there is:
Quote
ghostscript (version 9.04-1pclos2011) sera mis à niveau vers la version 9.04-2pclos2011
ghostscript-common (version 9.04-1pclos2011) sera mis à niveau vers la version 9.04-2pclos2011

I finally found where to report gutenprint bugs:

https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?group_id=1537&atid=101537

It appears that there is the same problem with the Epson SX200.  It was suggested to try the TX200 driver, I did, and that one does print colours correctly.  I don't know whether there may be other problems, but I'll try that for now.

Hi,

You can also use the logs from CUPS, which you should find in /var/log, for eventual bug reports (search for error messages or warnings).

I have updated, printed a file containing text and a colorful image, and the printing came out beautifully. My printer is a HP Officejet 4500 G510 g. I have a belief that the ghostscript may have been the guilty one and not gutenprint driver. If you can afford to give it a try I would suggest you update now and give it a new try.

Here also today's update fixed a printer problem : Re: Printing error "/usr/lib/cups/filter/gstoraster failed"

Regards,
Mélodie

Thanks Melodie, but that's not it.  I've just updated ghostscript as you suggest (and everything else) but using the NX200 driver I still have the problem. The TX200 driver is OK with quite a complex document, so I'll stick with that for now.  At least I don't have to switch installations to print.

Errrhh I am back, the latest development from you will give an excellent opportunity to compare the printer drivers between NX and TX, this is something I will not miss   ;D

Can you do the following in root konsole and post the result:

Code: [Select]
[root@localhost ~]# lpstat -a -l -p
For each printer you have installed there should be a line similar to:

Quote
Interface: /etc/cups/ppd/Canon-MP160.ppd

The above line is one from my system, yours will be different. It is the *.ppd file I am interested.

Make a copy of the file(s) from the NX200 and the TX200 and email it to me.   :D

I am getting just a bit nervous, you are not saying you have troubles too?   ;D

I will assume you are just showing simple way to get the result I am really after.  I am going to add this one to my records.

You are on the right track with using some file compare utility, I use the Kdiff3 from repo and sometimes another one.

Now the fun begins. I have looked at these two, the two files you sent at the same time.  When you look at the byte count they are both very very close. They have identical line count too.

110925-Stylus-NX200(NX200).ppd "faulty"
110925-Stylus-NX200(TX200).ppd "working"

Do you agree with my annotation faulty/working, I believe understand that was what you wrote in the email?  Please confirm or deny   ;D

The two files are not byte identical but as far as I am concerned they are Operational Identical. so in my opinion they should both work exactly the same.

The file you have named .old below:

110925-EPSONStNX200.ppd.old[/color]

Do I understand that this used to work fine?  Or is that the one that would come from 5.2.6?

I will look closer at that one later, since it is about 5 times bigger in bytes it is somewhat different to the two above  :D
