Howard,
I had a look through PCC to see what might be there for your  Epson Stylus NX200 .....  and it appears there are three drivers available ....

Cups+Gutenptint v5.2.7 [en]
Foomatic/gutenprint-ijs-simplified.5.2
Foomatic/gutenprint-ijs.5.2

I wondered if you had tried all three lately?

Ramchu: I'm sorry to hear that you have a similar problem, but I'm glad I'm not the only one!

Wedgetail: My initial thought was that the driver for the Epson NX200 (3 in 1) was corrupted and I think that's in a foomatic database.  (I remember that in the distant past I actually edited that myself to correct a margin problem, but I was bolder in my youth and it was a different printer!).  I haven't been able to find a specific NX200 entry.

Just 18: Thanks I'll see if I can find them.

I am making the assumption you have done a reasonable amount of checking and testing, this is why I suggest no more trial and error.  My route is a bit longwinded but if that fails you have a real problem.  ;D ;D

Just18 is on to something but I have a feeling there is something more under the hood, the symptoms is starting to sound like something I have seen before in forum but then focused on hp inkjets.  I am also working on a printer problem in KDE now, which smells a bit like yours.

I did not get a clear answer if CUPS would scare you off?

I've just tried all four driver options (there was also a CUPS+gutenprint-simplified) all give the same result, colours on separate lines.

I'll leave it to you for a bit Wedgetail as you say enough of trial and error, I've better things to do.  And switch to my old KDE3.5 installation when I want to print in colour.   Thanks for your efforts.

Howard,

Just fixed my printing problem !
I deleted my printer in PCC .
Rebooted my computer.
and then reinstalled it by using http://localhost:631 from my browser
with the cups interface as Root.

Don't know if this will help you - but may be worth a shot.

There is little I can do without your help, I do not have your printer.  I will need information from your running system.   ;D  I understand completely you have other tasks to get on with.

Do you by any chance have the *.pdf file from just before the update?

*.pdf ?

Are you referring to the ppd file - if so NO.
It was removed when I deleted my printer.

Sorry, thinking of another problem when I decided to ask if you by any chance had kept the file for forensics.  No problem, I am starting to get an idea about the colour problem, but I need to get hold of 'failing' ppd files.

Just tell me what you want (fairly precisely) and I'll see what I can do.

Just a warmup, simple little exercise, go to root konsole and post the result of your:

Code: [Select]
[root@localhost gert]# lpinfo -v
..
..
[root@localhost gert]#

Should only be about 6-10 lines, but there may be some delay before the command line shows so be patient, I want to see the start and end command line prompt wrapping the result   ;D

I only just sent you the message  ;D and I have had minor outage to day too.

The next step very likely will generate over 10,000 lines so do not attempt to send this over Forum. You will have to email me the result.  You can do it for both, I will compare (of course make different filename for second run). You can copy and paste the command to konsole.

This will place the file 110124-cups_printers_available.txt on your desktop, run in root konsole.

Quote
[root@localhost gert]$ lpinfo -m >>/home/Your User Here/Desktop/110124-cups_printers_available.txt
[root@localhost gert]$

The following command, just report information in Forum, around 20 lines per printer, and I am guessing you are not running too many printer ques   ;D

Code: [Select]
[root@localhost ~]# lpstat -a -l -p
32 bit: KDE (older) & various KDE-mini, ASUSTek P5P41D Rev X.0x, BIOS AMI0207 07/21/2009, "Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU E5300 @ 2.60GHz", nVidia GeForce 9600 GT, 2x1GB Seagate Technology 1000528AS HDD
