I don't know if you use KDE ..... but if you do could you try using KMPlayer with the device?
i will try with kmplayer as soon as i got home.

i'm using test3 64bit, install kmplayer, configure kmplayer, and the device is there as Video Device : /dev/video0, but the Audio Device is blank.
i dunno what to fill in

so i left it blank
then i open playlist window, chose television and click on composite1 ... tadaaaa ... yes i got both video and audio on my speakers.
the video quality is suck compare to tvtime, unless i enable video output setting on general to opengl and applying linear blend deinterlacer
now is smooth and clear.
then i click konsole and here is the output :
