Start Up Sounds [Solved]
« on: September 19, 2011, 11:52:48 AM »
I have been working some with LXDE and I notice I don't have any "log on" or "log out" sounds. Is there a way to add those? My sound works, just no system sounds. thanks.

Just to say that I get no sound either when I boot up and I have tried that as shown but it still does nothing, although I do get some system sounds and sound in Firefox etc works fine.

just to make sure I don't have something missing, I tried the live cd and I get no sound with it either, kinda strange. what controls the log on sound? I can play music and play you tube videos.

just as a follow up, I loaded the live cd in my desktop machine and I get no start up sound there either, am I missing something that I need?

I am not 100% on this, but I never noticed LXDE having a "startup" sound by default.

(If it had one, I would be trying to figure out how to turn it off)  ;)

I tried the above advice Rudge, but when I click the "play" buttons, nothing happens. but if I go to the folder where those start up sounds are located and click on them, they play with clementime.

Check that you have these installed:
canberra-gtk
esound
ffmpeg
gnome-audio
gnome-audio-extra
gstreamer-plugins  the good, bad and the ugly
gstreamer-tools
libsoundfile1
sound-scripts
soundwrapper
sox

Install any that are missing. Run the test in GDM Setup. Post results.

Just thought I'd add that my LXDE system just started playing startup sounds a few days ago.  I didn't set it up that way, or make any changes, it just started doing it on its own.  I get a Windows-like sound at boot, and again when I log on.  Now I need to figure out how to disable it!   :P

Same as enabling. Open lxdecc > System tab > GDM Settings >>> Accessibility tab. Remove the tick from the 3 login sounds.
