Weather plugin loading before WIFI connection
« on: September 18, 2011, 02:18:16 AM »
When I boot into Phinx, the weather plugin is loading before my wifi connection is established and it always shows "no data". I have to manually refresh it afterwards to get the readings. It's a matter of 3-5 seconds. Is there any way to "delay" the loading of the plugin so it starts after being connected to the internet?

That is a good question. I have experienced this on many XFCE distros like another distro, thought it was just me.

Now that you mention it, the network manager is the last thing that loads during boot... First checks ethernet connection (which I don't use) and displays a message about it being down, and then connects to wlan0. Is there a way to make this procedure faster? For example, disable ethernet connection?

Weather plugin refreshes after about half a minute and gets the info from the net. Actually I was rushing to refresh it without realizing that if I let it, it would eventually refresh.

Disable the ethernet chipset in your computer's BIOS. Then remove the ethernet connection in PCC > Network & Internet > Remove a connection. I say disable in BIOS because I believe the connection will be re-enabled as long as PCLinuxOS detects you have an ethernet chipset.

Of course, if you use the ethernet connection in the future, you'll need to re-enable it in BIOS and will have the same scenario again.

Thanks! I know how to completely disable my ethernet adapter but never thought of that because I never had problems with it being enabled and not used... Will try that when I get back to my laptop :)
