There are lots of motherboards with ONBOARD unichrome graphics - and the addition of a video card CAN give NEW LIFE to them for many potential PCLOS users........ 8)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
.OK- in2009,    have you checked your DVD/cd player?   the FULL MONTE is a dvd I think, and the others are cd's........

If you get any pclos to "work"  then go to PCC> hardware> configure video card>and see if your monitor, and graphic card is correct, and recognized properly.......here you can make the corrections, if any, and see if it makes any diff.

-might be an xorg thing....FROM the unichrome site :  VT3108:
"The Unichrome Pro, later renamed Unichrome Pro B. Found on K8M800 and K8N800."

You might TRY the 'OPENCHROME' driver-listed under 'XORG'...in the "configure video card" section -hardware-pcc.....

If none of that works....

The only other thing i can suggest, is to hit the escape key while the cd is starting to read the TEXT output of/at the hang...

Try LXDE or Openbox, too...

Thanks for all the suggestions.

1)  My CD/DVD drive works well with other distros, so I don't think that's the problem.

2)  As I noted before, the 2011 PCLinuxOS "Full Monty" DVD loads up just fine.  In hardware-> configure video card, the card and monitor are both recognized correctly.  It must be that the "Full Monty" is loading a better version of the Unichrome driver?

3)  The 2011 KDE and OpenBox PCLinuxOS CD's both hang up on UDEV.  So I don't see how I can play with XORG or to configure the video card.

4)  Hitting the ESC key while PCLinuxOS was loading had no effect.  Seems the same as booting without the Splash Screen.  It hangs on UDEV.

5)  What is strange is that the 2011 Gnome/PCLinuxOS boots OK and so does the 2011 "Full Monty" version.  There must be something in the video driver on the CD version that is different.

And I thing I read you said you can't install Full Monty because you would need more ram in your machine to be able to do that ? Is that right ?

What if you would use a preconfigured rc.local file that allows having an additional "virtual memory" ? (Up to 25% more than what your machine does have currently ). You will find it in Openbox versions : /etc/rc.d/rc.local.

....WHAT IS IT "RECOGNIZED" : AS ????????????  (for example = "S3>UniChrome-based cards w/3d support"...)

....You are posting too "nonchalantly" - not acknowledging the essential clues i've been suggesting....

WHEN in PCC> hardware> video card> CLIK ON THE "GRAPHIC CARD" line to see which it is using... ???
..you can change it to another - {scroll down to see XORG choices...there's an S3 and Openchrome  driver -in there also.... :-\} for LXDE or Openbox...

-check the burn quality of the cd's - might be a fault. Huh  if you want to use windows to check, read this .
If you want to use LINUX pclos to check : read this.

Sorry I wasn't clear.  The Full Monty runs OK from the DVD.  It just cannot load into ram because I only have 2G ram and Full Monty needs around 4G of ram.  I do not want to install anything on my hard drive at this time.  I'm only trying to load it from CD/DVD drive and run it in my 2G of ram.  The KDE and Openbox CD versions should both be able to do that but, unlike the Full Monty, they hang the system when trying to load.

Pardon me, very sorry.  I'm going on vacation tomorrow and trying to do too many things.  OK, I ran the Full Monty (DVD) and checked in hardware > video card.  It shows:  S3 Unichrome-based card with 3d support.  Note that under the Full Monty, this works perfectly, no need to change it.

Problem is when I try to load the CD (not the Full Monty) version, either KDE or Openbox, the system hangs.  Pardon my ignorance, but I don't understand how to change the driver before booting the system.  Again, I'm trying to run from the LiveCD, not trying to install to hard drive.

I really appreciate your and Melodie's help and patience.

Hi ln2009,
I am not sure if I completely understand your problem, but I had a similar problem earlier this year when xorg was upgraded.
Try this;
Press F3 at the boot screen then return
add a 3 to the end of the boot line - press return again.
login as root (su) at the console
type do-vesa
then type startx and it should take you to the desktop.

I have another possibility, but see if this gives you the result you are looking for.

The md5sum checked OK.

I downloaded the 6/27/11 version of PCLinuxOS KDE.  Md5sum check OK.  Burned it to a LiveCD.  When I boot it, the choices are F1 Help, F2 Language, F3 800x600, F4 CDRom, F5 Driver, F6 Kernal Options.

Pressing F3, I get the following choices:  Text, 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768.  I believe the older versions of PCLinuxOS had an F3 Boot Options, but this one does not.

If I press F6 Kernal Options, then press "default", it brings up a line where you can put in Boot Options_________ .   I tried typing 3 and pressing Enter, but that starts to load the CD which partially loads, but then hangs on "Starting UDEV"

I also tried to boot into CONSOLE.  But in the middle of loading, it hangs with a corrupted screen and the computer is locked up.

Hi,

Then type F6, add 3 at the end of the line, and do the rest as explained by johmart just before. :)
