thankyou agmg ...
Phinx is very much more tailored for the streamline of the Xfce environment, this means that it uses solely xfce native applications (Midori, Catfish, Postler, Dexter, Ristoretto, Parole, Xfmedia etc) and altho is still very much in the domain of ready out of the box .... certain things like media codecs etc are not part of the install ... for .mkv there is mkvtoolnix in the repo that will allow you to play those files in Xfmedia without the need to install other media players ... just a bit of searching will help you find this ...
As for replace Phoenix with Phinx that is not going to happen ... Phoenix is the larger install and contains the mainstream set of applications (Firefox, Thunderbird etc etc) unlike Phinx which only has the native apps ... these apps are what people are used to seeing as the main install ... im sure if you open Postler in Phinx you will realise it is a very lightweight email client ... and doesnt have the full capabilities of Thunderbird for instance ... but it does the job a 100 times quicker than Thunderbird ...
altho it is a complement on Phinx ... Phoenix is just the ticket for the mainstream Xfce user who wants a faster full packed install ... Phinx is the ticket for the users who want a system which is even faster but is pure ... The reason for the additional speed in Phinx is because of the native apps which have been specifically designed for that platform and do not use outside contaminants from other DE's which cause conflicts and issues leading to instabilities and speed decrease in the system.
have fun and enjoy ... and again thankyou for your feedback
