SOLVED Firefox wouldn't open
« on: September 14, 2011, 12:26:15 PM »
At our Linux group meeting last evening, there was a demonstration of Webmin. When I arrived home, I checked whether it was in our repos. It was, so I installed it.
When I tried to open it, the computer froze. Edit: I think that I must have missed an important library associated with Webmin.

I logged out and back in and used Synaptic to uninstall Webmin. After rebooting, I found that neither Firefox nor Thunderbird would open.

Early this morning, I opened a terminal > /usr/bin and typed firefox.
Firefox failed to open and gave a message that /home/jim/tmp/orbit-jim couldn't be written to.

Opening File manager with admin privileges, I right clicked on /home/jim/tmp and found that root had the only read write permissions. I changed it from root to jim and closed the folder.

Firefox and Thunderbird were able to be opened as before.
