[SOLVED] Volume control knob in Xfce
« on: September 13, 2011, 03:04:36 PM »
Hello to everyone!

I'm a happy PCLinuxOS user for about a week now! I've been on another distro before (I love Xfce) but I wanted a distro that I don't have to reinstall every six months. So I decided to give PCLOS a try and I'm very glad I did.

I only have one small frustration: my Toshiba Satellite L505 laptop (on which I installed PCLOS) has some multimedia buttons and a volume control knob that used to work fine in another distro but not in PCLOS. I managed to get the keys working by changing keyboard layout to match Toshiba Satellite S3000. But the volume control knob still isn't working. I did a little research and found out that in another distro there is an app called "xfce4-volumed" (volume management daemon) that controls the multimedia/volume buttons. This package is not in PCLOS repos. I thought I could try to compile it from source but it needs glib-2.0 which also is not in the repos.

Is there a chance that I could install xfce4-volumed in PCLOS or make the volume control knob work another way? I can live without it off course but it is a very useful little knob :P

Thanks in advance for your help!

After a little more search, I found the solution here:

I followed the instructions on the last post and it worked perfectly. Just posting it in case someone else has the same problem.
