[SOLVED] Preview photos?
« on: September 13, 2011, 02:42:11 AM »
I'd like to see the photos I have in a folder when they are still icons.
To view the I have to double-click them and it would be great to see all the little photos in the folder as in windows style.
How can I do this?

xfce 4.8

Click in Dolphin at the "Preview" button (nearly at the center at the top of the window)  ;)

"Preview" in Dolphin works, but it has a file size limit, after which it doesn't create thumbnails (it's adjustable, but that may add a performance hit).

I've not used tumbler...may get around to installing and testing it.

Gwenview is installed from the LiveCD, and can browser directories with thumbnails for all supported image file types.

you can install dolphin

also you can install a quick image viewer, gthumb or gqview, it is often a better experience than a medium thumbnail

this is XFCE not gnome ... and i wouldnt recommend the KDE 4.* apps being mixed with the new Xfce 4.8 Desktop ... it causes conflicts ... and i would not advise mixing the 2 ...

"this is XFCE not gnome"

really?!?  the suspensive dots clarified everything for me, thank you!  gnome is not xfce...  OH!

about installing and running multiple desktops on one pclinux install, i do it all the time, i have now kde4, gnome and xfce and had e17 installed and nothing exploded or made conflict

say that you can only think/use on native apps on xfce is a ridiculous situation, good luck with that

T6,
as I have read on this forum XFCE 4.8 has different dependency from XFCE 4.6, to the point to have a different repo section ...
I would not ignore Sproggy's warnings. I really believe that things could go wrong when you mix different dependency requirements.

ah sod it ... T6 ... is a super poster so must know everything ... install what ya like ... when the gnome desktop appears over your xfce desktop ... or kde plasma wipes out your gtk themes ... i have warned you ... heed my warning or take his advice ... this is 1 of the reasons i have taken the time to package up all the native apps for xfce ... to hopefully resolve these issue/desktop issues because someone installed ockular or nautilus and there systems are now knackered and the only resolve is a fresh install .... then they go and do the exact same thing again ...

it is so re-comforting when someone feels overwhelmed by my post count  :D

" install what ya like"

don't need your permission but thank you  :D

"when the gnome desktop appears over your xfce desktop ... or kde plasma wipes out your gtk themes ... i have warned yo"

been there, done that, the year was 2008, nice year, fun year, good it is over  :D

now, if none of the file browsers offers the functionality required to see bigger previews, i remember a set of articles in the pclinux magazine talking about image viewers, the ideal one here should be the smaller and fastest one
