[SOLVED]Simple setting (Now frozen desktop)
« on: September 07, 2011, 05:43:28 PM »
Okay there has to be some super simple setting I'm missing to set what desktop is shown at start. It's no big deal, but it always boots to my 6th desktop rather than the 1st.

- Thank You

by boots to desktop do you mean the boot menu or are you talking about virtual desktops in the desktop enviroment?

if your talking boot menu you have to set the default in PClinuxOS control center >boot section >boot set up.

if your using KDE and your talking virtual desktop I believe it always comes up on the last one you used.
Let me know a little more information about what your talking about if those suggestions don't cover it.

Sorry I meant the virtual desktop, I too assumed it was last use. It is very consistent with only starting on the 6th virtual desktop every time.

Isn't that doing the same?

When shutting down do a "safe session".

This did not work, in fact it now tries to launch kwrite when I first start and than will completely freeze after a 20 seconds. I have to use R.E.I.S.U.B to get out.

No safe session doesn't help either.

I think I recall sometime ago this occurring and some users removed all the virtual desktops except Desktop 1 and either rebooted or restarted and then added desktops back again.

Mine always goes to Desktop 1 when I restart regardless of which one I was using at close.....

Update on my second problem now. After running the command
Code: [Select]
echo "wmctrl -s 0" >> ~/.kde4/Autostart/noblank.sh
My system can not launch any .desktop program and trying to access any menus even right click>leave will freeze the computer. However all widgets work, can not open dolphin even from widget. Attempts to run kwrite on start for some reason too.

Okay, I reinstalled which after it I still had the same problem. I booted into root and updated everything, because I just reinstalled root it had some 300 updates. After all the updates I rebooted into my user, this time I don't see kwrite try and start. The minut I click on a icon the whole thing freezes, if I wait a few sec it comes up with 2 errors and asks me if I want to terminate kde4 and after doing so it works perfectly. Any ideas on how to fix this? I tried reinstalling both kde and plasma.

If you use a separate /home partition did you format it or are you "reusing" it in the new install?

Reusing, so everything on my desktop/vd are the same.

I decided to just rename my old home folder, make a new user and move in what files I decide I want to keep. So I didn't loose anything, just annoying. On the plus side my desktop now boots to number 1!

Pleased it's all sorted for you.

Reason I asked about reusing your home partition was that if the "corruption" had occurred in a file(s) in one of the home folders there was a possibility that it would be recur in a new install
