Disappearing volumecontrol icon from the LXDE panel
« on: September 07, 2011, 03:52:12 PM »
I'm having a very silly problem. I have volumeicon installed so I added it to the panel. It shows up when I add it, works too!  :D but every tine I boot, rebott, logout etc., it doesn't show in the panel anymore although it's still listed as being an item in the panel.

any ideas?

Use autostart function.
Menu > More Applications > Configuration > Configure Your LXDesktop (lxdecc) >>> personal tab > autostart settings

Add volumeicon to your autostart, thats all....

Good Luck

Do you mean you tried to use an icon different from the default in the panel?

I'm not sure how to add it to autostart. if I use the control panel only desktop apps show in the list. volumecontrol is a panel applet.

edit: ok it is in lxsession and checked. as I said, it's still listed as being in the panel but the icon doesn't show after a boot or restart. It does show across logins and outs.

if I click refresh panel it shows up.

If you open lxdecc, and select Personal tab you will see follow window,

click on autostart settings

now on yes, and you get

next step, click on Available Starter, select your lovely starter as sample clementine.desktop, and click on add starter

Close with application, and logout/in clementine will now start...

??? I'm very confused.  :D I'm not trying to start clementine. I installed volumeicon which I put in the lxpanel. It doesn't display when booting or rebooting. It does display in the lxpanel if I just logout then in. if I click refresh panel in lxdecc then it shows.

LKJ,
Open /home/<you>/.config/lxpanel/LXDE/panels/panel. This is your config file for you panel. Look for the entry for volumeicon. Post that entry here. Did you remove the entry for volumealsa? Or comment it?

strange, actually the config file I posted was without the volume control. I forgot I had taken it out. once I re-added it it was shown in the config file, but, it still doesn't display the icon for some reason unless I go into lxdecc and click refresh panel, then it displays the icon.

edit: maybe it's a timing thing and it just doesn't have time to draw the icons.beats me.

re-edit: though it draws the others.  ??

Try replacing your panel file with the one at /etc/skel/.config/lxpanel/LXDE/panels/ and edit it to change the line type = volumealsa to type = volumeicon.

lordy, lol. well I have all the stuff I took out back.  :D and volumecontrol is still listed in the items for the panel. but it still didn't draw. I hate to bring it up but I am running it in virtualbox. maybe that's a problem although I have no clue why it's still listed but is the only icon it won't draw.

edit: if I rename it to "volumeicon" it removes it from the lxpanel. it has to be named "volumealsa" apparently
